Centered Riding® Inc. is pleased to announce that we will offer a Centered Riding Instructor Diversity Scholarship for 2021. The purpose is to increase opportunities for Black, Indigenous and People of Color (BIPOC) who are currently under-represented in the horse world, to become Centered Riding Instructors and industry professionals.  We believe this will honor the beliefs and wishes of Sally Swift, the Founder of Centered Riding, as two of her original Apprentices in Centered Riding were Black women.

The scholarship will cover clinic fees for an initial qualifying (2 or 3 day)  Open Centered Riding Clinic and for the 7 day Centered Riding Instructor Certification Course, up to a total of $1500.00.  In 2021, the CR Instructor Diversity Scholarship will be awarded to a Black, Indigenous or Person of Color riding instructor (in any riding discipline) in the USA. The sponsor for the 2021 Scholarship is Susan E. Harris, Centered Riding Level IV Clinician. We hope to be able to fund this scholarship to continue in future years and to be available in other countries.

Applicants must meet the requirements for taking the Centered Instructor Course: i.e., they must be from North America, at least 18 years old, Black, Indigenous or Person of Color, a safe, experienced riding instructor (any discipline), able to ride at walk, trot and canter in a group, and read and accept the terms of the Centered Riding Instructor Course. Preference will be given to candidates who will use their Centered Riding training and qualifications to introduce under-represented BIPOC riders to horses and horsemanship, and/or to help such riders advance in horsemanship and the horse industry.
